Dead or Alive
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — John 3:3
There are many things in the Christian life that people disagree on. Throughout history, believers have wrestled with difficult questions. Questions about doctrine, practice, and interpretation. One of the most deeply discussed is this: How does God save a person?
While there are different perspectives, Scripture consistently draws our attention to something far more important than winning an argument, it draws us to the reality that salvation is ultimately a work of God.
Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus in John 3 reminds us that salvation is not simply about knowing the right things or making a decision in our own strength. It is about being born again, a work of the Spirit of God that brings life where there was none.
This truth humbles us. It reminds us that we do not save ourselves. We do not earn our way to God. We are completely dependent on His grace, His mercy, and His power to make us alive.
At the same time, this truth calls us to respond. The gospel is not something to analyse from a distance, it is something to receive. Christ was lifted up so that whoever believes in Him would have eternal life. The invitation is real, and it is before us.
So this week, rather than getting caught up in debates, let your heart rest in this:
Trust not in yourself, but in Christ alone
Be humble before the God who saves
And live as one who has been brought from death to life
Because in the end, our hope is not in how well we understand salvation but in the Saviour who accomplished it.
